feature Volunteering for UCS
Help UCS by volunteering your time! Choose from many options that can take as little or as much time as you have to offer. Whether you distribute UCS materials in your community, introduce friends and family to our work, or find ways to advocate for our issues, any fundraising, public relations, or activism you can do on behalf of UCS adds to our effectiveness.
Here are some ways you can help:
Action and Advocacy
-
Join the Action Network and forward alerts to your friends and family.
-
-
-
Turn one of our online actions from our Action Center into a petition to distribute in your community and send to policy makers.
-
Help recruit additional Action Network members by adding the following message to the footer of your emails: "Make your voice heard on important environmental and security issues. Join the Union of Concerned Scientists Action Network at www.ucsaction.org. It's quick, easy, and FREE."
-
After you respond to an email action alert, follow up with a phone call to your congressional delegation by dialing the Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121.
-
Write letters to your local newspapers when you see coverage of our issues, citing information from our website or publications. Find out more about writing and submitting a letter.
-
Distribute UCS materials at a local parade, fair, or Earth Day table.
-
Form a group of concerned neighbors and community leaders to talk to local officials about UCS issues that affect your community directly.
Fundraising and Membership
-
Recommend UCS to a family member, individual, or foundation that might be interested in providing us with financial assistance.
-
Find out if your employer has a matching gift program or participates in workplace giving campaigns.
-
Share a list of potential members with us.
-
-
Nominate and vote for UCS to be a recipient of Working Assets contributions through its long-distance, wireless, credit card, Internet access, ShopForChange, or GiveForChange services.
-
Throw a party with friends and colleagues to introduce them to our work and ask them to become a member or join our Action Network.
-
Bring UCS materials to a campus group meeting.
Education and Outreach
-
Donate a UCS membership to a school library or classroom in your area.
-
Donate your copies of Catalyst and earthwise to a school in your area.
-
Provide a teacher you know with our educational resources.
-
Copy and distribute our information in your neighborhood, or at a local church or community group meeting.
-
We will be happy to supply membership brochures, posters, newsletters, fact sheets, and any other information not available on the Web for you to distribute.
-
Please contact us for information on what else we may have available. We also welcome your own ideas and suggestions for how to help us make a difference.
