SSI AT AGU FALL MEETING IN SAN FRANCISCO

On December 13, 1999, SSI held a reception at the American Geophysical Union's Fall Conference in San Francisco. The engagement was a successful opportunity for SSI members attending the conference to meet each other and UCS staff.

More than 50 SSI members enjoyed hors d'oeuvres as they listened to the featured speaker, Dr. Pamela Matson of the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences and the Institute for International Studies at Stanford University.

As co-author of the recently released UCS/ESA report "Confronting Climate Change in California: Ecological Impacts on the Golden State", Dr. Matson spoke about the report's findings and engaged the audience in a interesting discussion of the report and some of the broader issues concerning local and regional impacts of climate change.

UCS and SSI staff truly enjoyed this opportunity to meet SSI scientists face to face, and look forward to engaging in similar activities in the future.
