about ssi Current Activities
Scientists participating in the SSI network raise environmental literacy, bring sound science to bear on critical environmental policies, and help promote science-based solutions by: Climate Change
- Countering attacks on credible climate science designed to confuse or mislead the public and policymakers.
- Strengthening the coverage of climate science in the media.
- Publicizing the potential impacts of climate change and identifing viable solutions.
- Communicating with legislators and key administration officials to strengthen and support sound science-based policies to reduce the threat of climate change.
Biological Diversity - Strengthening public awareness and policies to control the spread of harmful invasive species.
- Raising public awareness about loss of biological resources-species, natural habitats, and the services provided by intact ecosystems.
- Highlighting the linkages between climate change and biodiversity loss, including the projected ecological impacts of climate change on selected US regions.
- Providing scientific input into key domestic forest policies.
- Communicating with legislators to improve key biodiversity-related legislation.
