There are hundreds of useful and interesting web sites on energy out there, more than enough to overwhelm you. We've selected just a few general ones here as a starting point. For links to specific topics, like solar energy or climate change, look on the relevant pages in the UCS web site.
The Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy office (EREN).

DOE's Energy Information Administration (EIA)
Provides comprehensive energy data.


DOE's National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL)
This is the primary research lab for solar, wind, biomass, and other renewables.


EcoIQ Magazine

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
This is the research center for the utility industry.


Energy Efficiency and Renewable Resources in Electric Industry Restructuring (EERR)
An ongoing discussion and database of what restructuring means for clean energy.


The Renewable Energy Policy Project (REPP)
Issue briefs and research reports on growth strategies for renewables that respond to competitive energy markets and environmental needs


Center for Energy and Environment

The National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO)
This site provides links to your state's energy office.


The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) On this site, you can find out about your state's utilities and regulators.

Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA)
Information and resource links on clean electricity, green transportation, and healthy, efficient buildings.


The California Energy Commission (CEC)
This is a vast and expanding web site.


Iowa Wind Energy Campaign

Minnesotans for an Energy Efficient Economy

BP Statistical Review of World Energy
From British Petroleum, lots of good data on world energy use and production.


Horizon Solutions Site
Provides cases studies of energy solutions worldwide and an opportunity to discuss them.


The Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST)
CREST is a clearinghouse for renewable energy, with lots of educational materials and an extensive list of renewable energy links.


Energy Education Online
This site provides information for teachers who want to teach about energy issues.


The Alliance to Save Energy
This site has several interesting features, including lesson plans on energy efficiency for teachers and a Home Energy Checkup, by which you can find out how much energy and money you can save (and how much pollution such savings will avoid) by implementing energy-efficiency measures.


Schools Going Solar
A guide to schools enjoying the power of solar energy


The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC)
This web site has a neat way to find out about your own electricity sources.
