Nuclear Weapons

UCS ads removed from Minneapolis, Denver airports

Union of Concerned Scientists' anti-nuclear weapons billboards in the Minneapolis and Denver airports were removed, following a complaint from Northwest Airlines that the Minneapolis one was "scary" and "anti-McCain." Addressing Senator John McCain in Minneapolis and Senator Barack Obama in Denver, UCS placed these otherwise identical billboards to coincide with the Republican and Democratic conventions. The ads urge the two presidential candidates to reduce the nuclear threat.

Mercury in CFLs is less of a threat than power plants
Use of energy-efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs reduces the mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants by a far greater amount than the small quantity of mercury that could escape from improperly disposed bulbs.
